Set up Rocket Broadcaster for your SHOUTcast stream

Configure the stream, test the connection details and check the audio Rocket Broadcaster transmits.

Reviewed · Follow the instructions supplied with your own rental.

Before you start

Keep your rental instructions and listening URL ready. Have the broadcaster, audio device and headphones connected before testing. Use your supplied credentials and encoding settings; the glossary explains the fields. Decide which application audio and microphone should be captured.

Steps

  1. Open Broadcast → Streams, then create or select the stream you want to configure.
  2. Choose the SHOUTcast server type specified for your rental. Enter its hostname, broadcast port, and source credentials.
  3. Use the supplied Stream ID and username where your chosen server type requires them. Do not guess another account’s settings.
  4. Choose MP3 and the encoding settings supplied with your rental.
  5. Use Test Stream to check the connection and authentication. Follow any diagnostic message, then start broadcasting and check the listener stream.

Check it worked

Test Stream completes its connection checks, the audio meters show your intended mix, and a separate listener hears it.

If it does not work

  • No meters: inspect source selection, audio routing and mute controls.
  • Meters but silence: compare the encoder status and current listening URL with a separate listener.
  • A refused connection or login error: recheck the supplied host, broadcast port, source credentials and connection mode.
  • Distortion: reduce gain at the stage that clips, then repeat the listener test.
