My broadcaster will not connect: first checks

Work through connection details and the exact error before changing server settings.

Reviewed · Follow the instructions supplied with your own rental.

Before you start

Have the rental instructions, software name and complete connection error ready. Note when the attempt occurred.

Steps

  1. Check that the host, broadcast port, and credentials match your rental instructions, including any accidental spaces.
  2. Read the complete error message. A refused connection, timeout, and login failure need different checks.
  3. Check whether your internet connection is working and whether the broadcast application is permitted by your network security settings.
  4. If it still fails, send TJ Lusch the software name, exact error, and time it occurred. Keep credentials private.

Check it worked

The encoder connects and stays connected during a short listener test. If it is connected but silent, move to the audio-path checks.

If it does not work

  • No meters: inspect source selection, audio routing and mute controls.
  • Meters but silence: compare the encoder status and current listening URL with a separate listener.
  • A refused connection or login error: recheck the supplied host, broadcast port, source credentials and connection mode.
  • Distortion: reduce gain at the stage that clips, then repeat the listener test.
