Fix missing or incorrect song titles on your stream

Audio can work while the displayed artist or title is missing, incorrect or stuck. Follow the information from the music source to the listener player before changing your stream connection.

Before you start

Choose two tracks with known artist and title information. Have a helper use a player that displays stream metadata, and keep your broadcaster connected to the intended stream.

Identify what is wrong

  • No current title: compare a second player before assuming the broadcaster is not sending it.
  • The same title stays on screen: check whether you are sending a fixed custom title instead of updates.
  • The wrong artist or track appears: check the music library’s tags and the metadata source selected in your broadcaster.
  • You see a station name: distinguish the station label from the current-track field.

Check the source and broadcaster

  1. Inspect the artist and title shown for the playing track in your music application. Correct the tags if they are wrong.
  2. Check that title updates are enabled for the active encoder or output. Do not edit a disconnected output while testing another.
  3. Review whether metadata follows the music application, a selected capture source, a file or a manually entered value. Choose the source that actually changes with your tracks.
  4. Play the first test track, then the second. Ask the helper what the player shows after its normal update delay.
  5. Compare another player if the broadcaster’s source information is correct but the display still differs.

Use the matching software guide

For SAM, use the SAM title-update guide. In Winamp’s SHOUTcast Source DSP, check the Titles controls and whether it follows Winamp updates. Mixxx supports track metadata and custom metadata in Live Broadcasting. Rocket Broadcaster has a separate metadata-capture configuration; selecting an audio device alone does not choose that information source.

Check it worked

The helper sees the intended artist and title change between the two tracks while audio continues normally. Note which encoder, information source and listener player you tested.

If the problem remains

Send TJ Lusch the broadcaster and version, whether audio works, the two titles expected and actually displayed, the player tested, and any metadata-related error. Keep source credentials private. Changing bitrate or audio gain does not correct incorrect track tags.
