AutoDJ is silent: check files, playlists and playback

Uploading music is only one part of getting AutoDJ playing. Check the listener’s address, the uploaded tracks and the playlist before changing server settings.

Reviewed · Follow the instructions supplied with your own rental.

1. Confirm what the listener is testing

Use the listening URL supplied with your rental. Test it in a player outside Second Life, then compare parcel playback. If another listener hears music, concentrate on the affected device or parcel. If everyone hears silence, continue with the panel checks below.

2. Check the panel status

Open the Centova Cast panel using your rental instructions. Note any service-status message, error or current-track information. Do not assume that a page left open earlier reflects the current state. If the service is stopped or shows an unfamiliar error, record it and contact TJ Lusch before repeatedly restarting it.

3. Check that the music reached the library

In Centova Cast, open Media under AutoDJ. Look for the tracks you intended to use. Check that uploads completed and the files are present. A filename in the upload area does not confirm that the track is assigned to a playlist. If one track fails, compare a different known-working track before changing the entire library.

4. Check the playlist and its tracks

Open the playlist in the media library and inspect its contents. An empty playlist cannot provide your intended music. Confirm that the intended playlist is enabled; Centova Cast’s media library provides Enable/Disable Playlist from its playlist list. Check the playlist type and any schedule against the intended playing time. Available options depend on the account configuration.

5. Change one thing, then listen

After correcting a missing track or playlist setting, allow the current playback state to update and test the same listening URL again. Write down what you changed. If silence begins after a particular track, note its name and compare another track. Do not delete the library or change unrelated encoding settings as a first troubleshooting step.

If you are switching between live and AutoDJ

Follow the handover instructions supplied for your rental. The expected behaviour depends on how the account is configured, so do not assume AutoDJ always resumes automatically. Tell TJ whether the silence started before, during or after a live broadcast, and whether your live encoder is still connected.

What to send support

Send your avatar name, the time and timezone, the displayed panel status, the playlist name, whether tracks appear in it, and whether the issue affects all listeners. Include any exact error text. Send screenshots privately to TJ Lusch in Second Life; keep panel passwords and source credentials out of public posts.
