Keep notifications and other unwanted sounds off your stream

Identify the capture path

Check whether your broadcaster captures selected applications, a mixer input or everything played through a chosen output device. Rocket Broadcaster’s system-audio capture, for example, captures audio played through its selected playback device. A routed desktop mix can have the same effect.

Prepare the applications

1. Close unneeded media players and browser tabs that can produce sound.
2. Mute or disable audible notifications in the applications and operating system controls you use. On Windows, review Settings → System → Notifications and the app’s notification-sound options.
3. Where your capture setup permits it, send only the intended music and voice into the broadcast path. Route other sounds to an output that is not captured.
4. Keep the listening stream on a helper’s separate device. Do not feed it back into the live mix.
5. Leave the applications you need for the show open during the test, so their real behaviour is included.

Test outside an important broadcast

Use a short rehearsal or private recording where available. Trigger a harmless test notification or another ordinary application sound and compare the captured meters or recording. Ask a helper whether they hear it. Avoid deliberately testing alerts during a public performance.

Do not rely on one switch

Do Not Disturb and app-notification controls are useful, but they are not a substitute for checking the actual captured sound path. An application may play its own audio, and muting your headphones does not necessarily mute the signal being encoded.

Check it worked

The intended music and microphone remain audible, while the tested notification and returned stream are absent from the captured mix. Repeat the check after changing your output device or routing software.
