Connected to SHOUTcast but listeners hear no audio
If your broadcaster connects but your Second Life audience hears silence, start by checking the audio path.
Reviewed · Follow the instructions supplied with your own rental.
Before you start
Have the current listening URL and a helper on a separate device ready. Confirm that your broadcaster reports a connection, then inspect the actual broadcast meters.
Steps
- Play a track or speak into the microphone and check the broadcaster’s level meters.
- Check that the intended music or microphone source is included in the broadcast mix and is not muted.
- Ask a listener to test the listening URL supplied with the rental. Confirm they are listening to your current stream.
- If the broadcaster shows audio but the listener still hears silence, send TJ Lusch the software name and what you have checked.
Check it worked
A separate listener hears music and voice on the supplied URL. Parcel playback is checked separately after the external listener test.
If it does not work
- No meters: inspect input routing and mute controls.
- Meters move but everyone hears silence: verify the listener URL and the encoder’s format and status.
- Only Second Life is affected: check parcel and viewer playback.
- One listener only: compare another device or connection.
Notes and references
Good to know: Monitor at a comfortable volume; avoid turning every gain control up at once.
