Set up BUTT to broadcast to SHOUTcast
Use BUTT (Broadcast Using This Tool) to send microphone or mixer audio to your Lusch Audio stream.
Reviewed · Follow the instructions supplied with your own rental.
Before you start
Keep your rental instructions and listening URL ready. Have the broadcaster, audio device and headphones connected before testing. Use your supplied credentials and encoding settings; the glossary explains the fields. BUTT receives an audio input; it does not play music files. Decide how music and voice will reach that input.
Steps
- Open Settings and use ADD in the server area to create a connection.
- Select SHOUTcast. Enter a stream name and the server address, port, and credentials supplied with your Lusch Audio rental, then save.
- In Audio, select the input device and channels carrying your sound. Set the streaming codec to MP3 and use your rental’s encoding settings.
- Start the audio source and check the level meters. Press Play in BUTT to connect, then check the listener stream.
Check it worked
Your broadcaster stays connected, the intended music and microphone reach its meters, and a separate listener hears a clear, balanced stream on the supplied listening URL. Check parcel playback afterwards if you are performing in Second Life.
If it does not work
- No meters: inspect source selection, audio routing and mute controls.
- Meters but silence: compare the encoder status and current listening URL with a separate listener.
- A refused connection or login error: recheck the supplied host, broadcast port, source credentials and connection mode.
- Distortion: reduce gain at the stage that clips, then repeat the listener test.
Notes and references
Good to know: BUTT takes audio from an input device; it does not play music files itself. SHOUTcast 2 accounts may need a combined login in the password field—use your supplied instructions or ask TJ Lusch.
