Music and microphone into BUTT on Windows

One Windows routing method for sending music and microphone audio to BUTT through Voicemeeter Banana.

Reviewed · Follow the instructions supplied with your own rental.

Before you start

Install compatible versions of Voicemeeter Banana and BUTT from their official sites, complete any required restart, and connect your microphone and headphones.

Steps

  1. Install Voicemeeter Banana from VB-Audio and complete any required restart. Select your headphones as its A1 hardware output.
  2. Set the music application’s playback output to Voicemeeter Input. Select your microphone on a Voicemeeter hardware-input strip.
  3. Enable B1 on the music and microphone strips so both go to the same virtual output. Use A1 where you want headphone monitoring.
  4. In BUTT’s Audio settings, choose Voicemeeter Out B1 as the input. Older drivers may call it Voicemeeter Output.
  5. Play a track and speak into the microphone. Check Voicemeeter and BUTT meters, adjust the balance, then make a test broadcast.

Check it worked

Both the music and microphone reach Voicemeeter’s B1 bus and BUTT’s meters, and a listener hears both.

If it does not work

  • No meters: inspect source selection, audio routing and mute controls.
  • Meters but silence: compare the encoder status and current listening URL with a separate listener.
  • A refused connection or login error: recheck the supplied host, broadcast port, source credentials and connection mode.
  • Distortion: reduce gain at the stage that clips, then repeat the listener test.
