Get music and microphone audio into your broadcast

Follow the audio from your music and microphone to the broadcaster, then check it as a listener.

Reviewed · Follow the instructions supplied with your own rental.

Before you start

List your sources and the input your broadcaster receives. Use headphones and have a separate helper ready.

Steps

  1. Decide which sources you want listeners to hear: a microphone, mixer, music application, or a combination.
  2. Choose those sources in your broadcaster’s audio settings or route them through a mixer or virtual audio device.
  3. Play music, then speak into the microphone. Check that each source reaches the broadcaster’s level meters.
  4. Use headphones to monitor without feeding speaker audio back into the microphone.
  5. Make a short test broadcast and ask a listener to check both music and voice.

Check it worked

Music and voice each reach the broadcaster’s meters and are heard clearly by a listener.

If it does not work

  • No meters: inspect source selection, audio routing and mute controls.
  • Meters but silence: compare the encoder status and current listening URL with a separate listener.
  • A refused connection or login error: recheck the supplied host, broadcast port, source credentials and connection mode.
  • Distortion: reduce gain at the stage that clips, then repeat the listener test.
